Press conference: Mikel Arteta speaks out on Odegaard, on Saka, Xhaka and Smith Rowe, Tierney's injury and more

Arsenal are preparing to face Slavia Praha in the quarter-final first leg of the Europa League on Thursday, April 8. The Gunners reached the quarter-finals after having celebrated a 3-2 on aggregate victory over Olympiacos in the round of 16. Ahead of the game, Mikel Arteta has given a press conference where he spoke out on Martin Odegaard,

On Odegaard

"We will assess him today how he’s feeling. He’s been carrying an injury for the last few days since he got injured with the national team."

On not buying a left back in January

"We could not do anything on that window. We decided to let Kolasinac out on loan as well and it’s a decision that we made."

On Saka, Xhaka and Smith Rowe

"Today is the day when they’re gonna be training fully with the team and let’s see how they feel."

On whether he will risk rushing Tierney back

"I don’t know. We’re gonna have to go day by day. When we get close to playing time and training with the time depending on how he is we will make that decision."

On Tierney's injury

"We have to make sure that he doesn’t need knee surgery. If that’s the case the time frame will be around what you said. It could have been worse but he’s feeling better and the damage is not that bad."

On whether he's relying on Aubameyang to step up in the next game

"We rely on every player on the squad to give their best and their maximum."

On whether Europa League is now best chance of Champions League qualification

"Till it’s mathematically possible you have to fight. We have to be realistic in the league and it’s difficult."     source - football.london / Join us on Telegram!/ Follow us on Twitter!
