Press Conference: Jose Mourinho on Manchester City win, Steven Bergwijn, Southampton, Victor Wanyama and more

Tottenham will return to action on Wednesday, as they are set to face Southampton in the FA Cup 4th round. Ahead of the clash head coach Jose Mourinho met with the press and talked about their upcoming rivals, Manchester City win, Vicor Wanyama, closed January transfer window and more. When asked about Mourinho's opinion on his side's transfer window, he said: “We got a very good player in Steven, we got a good kid with good potential to develop in Gedson. I would say we also lost a fantastic player, because people cannot judge Christian for the last season, he has to be judged for six seasons where he showed in club and the Premier League his top quality. We found our balance there, lost a fantastic midfield player, got a very exciting attacking winger and a young boy in midfielder who can give us solutions. “Without injuries, I would say ‘yes, good’. One player who gave six years is leaving but an incredible, exciting prospect is coming. I would say, ‘Very very good’. But we had these problems with important injuries and of course our squad in this moment is not as good as it can be. When our injured players are back, of course it will be much better.” Spurs boss talked about Ben Davies, who is back after injury recovery and said that he hopes the left-back will be fit to play against Aston Villa. “I would hope so. He’s training with us since yesterday," Mourinho said. "Of course, after tomorrow the boys are going to have some time [off] but not him, he has to stay and work. So when we start the week of Aston Villa he will be training with us fully so if everything goes well he will be good for the Villa game.” When talking about Victor Wanyama, the Portuguese manager said: "I feel safer by having Michel on the list. I don’t want the risk of losing Paulo or Hugo. Victor is from a position where we have lots of players - Winks, Dier, Skipp, Gedson." He then confirmed that Wanyama has not yet been told of the decision because he has been ill for the last few days. Mourinho also talked about the video of him running towards the fourth official. “In a funny way, but not in a good way, but I say in a funny way," he said. "I think the fact that now is allowed to have the screen in front of us I think is not good for the emotions, for our emotions because we watch and we watch exactly the same as the VAR is watching and by decisions the referees they don’t see it as well as we can. “That’s because the referees they are on the pitch and as I was saying the other day it is 200mph and very difficult for them and sometimes they don’t see things the same way we do. “The fact that we have the screens now when we didn’t use to be. In 2004/5 I remember I tried to go with a screen to the bench and I was forbidden by the rules and in this moment now you are allowed. So I don’t think it’s good for the emotions. My reaction was just based on being able to watch everything on the screen so I watched the Dele Alli situation, I watched the penalty, the pretend penalty, I watched everything so that creates emotions but okay I went viral for the wrong reasons.” Spurs boss were also asked whether Manchester City win papered over some cracks at the club, to which he replied: “We do our best, we try our best. Independent of any analysis anyone can do about our last matches, one thing is clear in the eyes of everybody. The group is together, the players are fantastic, they fight for each other and the club. In difficult circumstances, we’re a difficult team to play against and in difficult circumstances we’re always giving opponents a difficult match. “I don’t think any team is really enjoying playing against us, winning or not winning we give difficult matches. I’m proud of the group, everybody is giving his maximum and that’s what we’re going to do match after match.” Source- football.london
