Phil Neville names three Tottenham players most at fault in Southampton defeat

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes Tottenham have several players performing "well below their best", after Spurs' recent defeat at Southampton. Spurs were beaten 1-0 by the Saints as they kicked off the new year in a disappointing game with Danny Ings scoring the only goal of the game. Neville claims that Spurs have got plenty of work to do if they want to finish in the top four this season. “I look at that Spurs squad and I think it’s a top-four squad in terms of where they should be and I think they’re being let down by two or three of their so-called best players," he said, speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day. "You look at Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, months ago you’d say they were two of the best defenders in the Premier League, I think they’re playing well below their best and it’s why they are conceding so many goals. “(Christian) Eriksen, he’s not really at the races this season and was one of the best last year in terms of quality and creativity on the ball, he’s not really providing any quality whatsoever. You talk about why they’re in the position that they’re in, why (Mauricio) Pochettino isn’t in the job, I think it’s because of their best players not performing at their best.” After Wednesday's defeat Jose Mourinho's side sit on the 6th place at the Premier League with 30 points in total.
