Paul Merson has unleashed a scorching hot take ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Seagulls are set to host Gary O'Neil and his side in the Premier League on Monday, January 22 at AMEX Stadium.
Ending 2023 with a brilliant 4-2 victory over Tottenham, Roberto De Zerbi's squad demonstrated their prowess. The start of January saw them facing West Ham, resulting in a 0-0 draw. Brighton's journey in the FA Cup progressed impressively with a 4-2 triumph against Stoke City, earning them a spot in the fourth round.
Now, turning their focus back to league action, Albion are set up for the meeting against Wolves in the final fixture of matchday 21. The Molineux outfit enjoyed a fruitful festive period, securing three consecutive league wins, including a commanding 3-0 victory over Everton.
The Wanderers since had a positive festive run, sealing a place in the FA Cup's fourth round with a thrilling 3-2 extra-time win against Brentford.
Therefore, writing in his Spotskeeda column, the pundit has stated his prediction, claiming his belief that the ground owners are set to celebrate 3 - 2 victory.
"This is going to be a great game of football and both managers have done really well this season. Gary O'Neil has been one of the managers of the season. For him to come to the club at the last moment and have the impact that he's had is absolutely unreal. It also has to be said that Wolves would've been much higher up in the table if it wasn't for a few dubious VAR calls, so he's really enhanced his reputation this season.
As for Roberto De Zerbi, he's just a fantastic manager and Brighton play such an attractive brand of football that is so easy on the eye. I predict a lorry load of goals in this one, so I'm going for a 3-2 home win. Neither of these two sides is really playing for anything in terms of their league positions, so they can come out and express themselves on the pitch."
Paul Merson's prediction: Brighton 3 - 2 Wolves
