Paul Merson doesn't think 27-year-old Manchester City man will leave for Liverpool

Sky Sports Paul Merson believes that Kalvin Phillips will not leave Manchester City in the upcoming summer transfer window despite Liverpool interest.

The Daily Star previously reported that the Reds are interested in signing Phillips, with manager Jurgen Klopp personally keen on bringing the former Leeds United midfielder to Anfield. The player himself is reportedly open to a move to Liverpool, and the club are willing to pay £35 million for his services.

West Ham United have also been linked with the player for a potential move, however, Merson doesn't believe that Phillips will depart from the Premier League champions at the end of the season. The pundit believes the midfielder could get the chance to show his best on the pitch in case of Ilkay Gundogan's possible exit.

“If you look at the likes of Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling at Manchester City over the years, they’ve all taken a year to adapt," he wrote in SportsKeeda.

“He’s still young and could win three trophies this year, so even if he were to leave, where would he go?”
