No praise for Gedson Fernandes in full Tottenham debut, as Jose Mourinho has work to do

Gedson Fernandes was selected in Jose Mourinho's squad to face Southampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Portuguese joined Spurs on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica just over a week ago and  was handed his debut with ten minutes remaining in last Saturday's 0-0 draw at Watford. In this 1-1 draw Fernandes lasted 56 minutes before being replaced by Erik Lamela, with him setting up Son Heung-min for the opener moments later. During his 56 minutes on the pitch, the 21-year-old touched the ball 19 times, completed seven of his 10 attempted passes and made one tackle. However, many fans weren't happy with his performance and speaking to Spurs TV on the newcomer, Mourinho said: “It’s not easy. The Portuguese league is played at a different pace and intensity. “He’s played a different style so it’s not easy to arrive and be ready, especially in a game like this, or Watford. There are short spaces to play, it is very direct.. not easy. “Portuguese football is more like Spanish football than English football. It was difficult for him, but a good experience.” Source- Harry Hotspur
