Manchester City have made an £85million bid for Kalidou Koulibaly as they step up their search for a new centre-back this summer, according to
Gazzetta dello Sport.
City's close rivals Manchester United have failed in several bids to sign the defender in the last year with Napoli refusing to budge on their near £100million asking price. Liverpool have
reportedly entered the race for the player.
However, Pep Guardiola's side made a bid for the defender, following Vincent Kompany's departure.
Any successful bid for the 27-year-old would have to top the world record fee for a defender, which is still the £75million Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018
According to
Mail Online report that Koulibaly has a £133million release clause in his contract, but that doesn't kick in until next summer.
