Jose Mourinho’s side Manchester United will seek to respond to their defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion as they host a Tottenham Hotspur, who have made their best start to season in four years.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino faces the press ahead of the trip to Manchester United.
Any update on the new stadium and Manchester City clash?
No idea. I told you last week, I need to see what is going on with the new stadium. Of course the club communicate all the news and of course now we are waiting. My job is to be focused and trying to help the team, to improve every day. So focusing and working a lot and try to be ready Monday to compete in the best way and try and win the game which is our objective. Trying to help the club to achieve all that the club wants to achieve.
What do you make of the supporters trust running a survey on the EFL Cup match? If you are drawn at home, the fixtures could be reversed. What do the players think?
The players are focused day by day on their job. They are not talking about that. We really trust the club will take the best decision for the team for sure. It is not in our hands, it is not our job for us, we need to be 100% trying to improve and try to be in the best form to win games, and of course we trust the club, they are the people who are in charge to work in this aspect, to take the best decision for the team.
Are you expecting Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele to be here for the rest of the season?
I am working like if all the players will still be here. I cannot work thinking if they are going to be here tomorrow or not. Not only these names, different names. Can arrive an offer from a different club for number one, number 26, 27, 28 - players that we have. Maybe tomorrow or this afternoon arrive an offer, we will consider it. But you are focused on different names but we are focused in trying and taking the best decision to provide them the opportunity to play if they deserve.
What does Danny Rose have to do to get game time in this Spurs team?
Look I don’t want to talk about individual players who still haven’t played. They are in the squad and they will have an opportunity to play. I am not going to explain my decision. You need to talk about whether he played on Monday, or maybe not. You need to wait and see what is going to happen.
Surprised by Manchester United's defeat to Brighton?
I am not here to talk about my opponent. Of course, I need to consider some aspects because we are going to play with them but I am not here to challenge what they are doing or what happened around them. I have a very good relationship and Man United. We are only going to be there Monday to win the game and the most important thing is hu with Mou [Jose Mourinho] from when I was a manager in Espanyol, and of course, I have full respect with the three points.
Do you take encouragement from results away at Chelsea and Liverpool last season?
Chelsea last season was a good example, after 27 or 28 years, we won. Why not? Many negative things but you always need to believe. And course I believe more than ever that we can win. I think we are winners, but the winners sometimes lose, the most important is your attitude. If your attitude is right, you are perfect, you will win more than you lose. We are working hard and trying to be consistent but of course, after four years there are lots of things to improve, and one thing that we need to improve is to win against clubs away from home like Manchester United. In the last four years, we play there, we lose for different reasons. We playing well in some games, in some games not so well. But it’s a massive challenge for us on Monday to go to Manchester United and show that we are capable to win.
