Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand called "not good enough" could leave this January, club have already eyed replacement

Manchester United are showing interest in signing Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa, and there is potential for a deal that includes Antony moving to the Brazilian club on loan, according to Mirror.

Currently, the Red Devils rely on Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial as their primary strikers, but both have yet to score in the Premier League this season. Hojlund has impressed with three goals in the Champions League group stage, although he has been unfortunate in the top-flight with United.

United believe that Barbosa from Flamengo could be a valuable addition to their squad. The 27-year-old scored 20 goals in 55 appearances last season and is currently valued at £20 million. His contract is set to expire in December 2024, making him a potential transfer target.

Flamengo is open to selling Barbosa to United in January, and the deal might involve Antony moving to Flamengo on loan. United are reportedly inclined to approve such an arrangement.

The Red Devils' poor performances this season have increased the pressure on both Antony and Ten Hag to reverse their team's fortunes. Despite this, Antony, who showed his displeasure on the United bench during their 3-0 loss to Manchester City last week, once again failed to make a positive impression as Ten Hag's team narrowly secured a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

The Brazil international's display against Fulham raised concerns for ex-United star Rio Ferdinand, who has now questioned the attacker's place in the squad in the future.

"He’s played 11 games this season and managed zero goals and zero assists - from an attacking player, that’s not good enough, that’s the hard fact," the pundit said, via Express UK.
