Manchester United star is facing a potential ban for racially-interpreted post

Alejandro Garnacho may face a potential suspension due to a social media post he made about Andre Onana following their UCL clash.

According to a recent Manchester Evening News article, Garnacho is under scrutiny for a post that may be interpreted as having racist elements. The 19-year-old shared a photo of Andre Onana and other teammates celebrating the goalkeeper's last-minute penalty heroics following a 1-0 Champions League group game victory over FC Copenhagen. The post included gorilla emojis.

Although Garnacho quickly removed the post upon realizing its potential implications, the Football Association (FA) is aware of it and may charge the teenager with violating their guidelines on 'racially sensitive social media posts.

The exact duration of Garnacho's potential suspension is currently unknown, but regulatory bodies could use a similar incident from 2019 involving Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy as a precedent. Silva was banned for one game and fined £50,000 by the FA for comparing his then-teammate to an image associated with the Spanish company Conguitos, which had faced criticism for racial connotations.

Manchester United's upcoming Premier League match is against Manchester City, scheduled to be held at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 29th.
