Manchester City have received another injury blow in their defence as Nathan Ake is set to miss the international break games through fitness problems.
The Citizens' star will not join the Netherlands squad on Monday for the upcoming international matches against the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar. The 28-year-old was absent from the thrilling 4-4 draw against Chelsea on Sunday due to an injury, but the extent of the issue remains undisclosed.
Following the game at Stamford Bridge, it was announced that Ake would stay in Manchester temporarily.
The Dutch national team's official page wrote on social media: “Nathan Ake will not join Oranje's training camp in Zeist tomorrow due to an injury. Get well soon @NathanAke!”
This injury adds to the club's defensive challenges, as John Stones also missed the Chelsea match due to an injury sustained in the midweek victory over Young Boys.
