Manchester City are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen's midfielder Florian Wirtz.
According to Fabrizio Romano, securing the transfer of the 20-year-old would require the Premier League giants to make an incredibly ambitious offer.
Recognized as one of the most promising young talents in European football, the German starlet has garnered significant attention. However, Leverkusen appears steadfast in their determination to retain him for the foreseeable future, with Romano revealing that they are not entertaining any offers during this current transfer window.
Although the Bundesliga outfit's ability to keep hold of the German international might challenging over time, the reigning Premier League champions might need to exercise patience for a prospective deal.
Presently, it's plausible that City could explore alternative options that are more financially viable and realistic.
Furthermore, writing exclusively in his Caught Offside column, the Italian transfer insider stated:
“Despite links with Manchester City and Florian Wirtz, I don’t think there are concrete chances for this deal to happen this summer honestly.
“Only a completely crazy bid could change Bayer Leverkusen’s stance, but no negotiations are taking place at this stage and sources expect him to stay. Leverkusen aren’t even quoting a price tag at this stage.”
