Rio Ferdinand has expressed high praise for Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is reportedly targeted by Tottenham for a managerial job.
In a video on his YouTube channel, the former Manchester United defender commended De Zerbi for his excellent work at American Express Community Stadium. The pundit even suggested that the 43-year-old Italian boss should be a strong contender for the Manager of the Year award.
“De Zerbi needs his flowers. And if we are talking manager of the season, he is up there," he said, as quoted by HITC.
According to The Independent's report in April, Tottenham are considering hiring De Zerbi as their new head coach for the upcoming summer of 2023.
Since Roberto De Zerbi took over from Graham Potter at Brighton, the team has shown improvement and progressed. However, it should be noted that De Zerbi operated in a relatively relaxed environment where he had the freedom to make mistakes and implement his preferred playing style.
On the other hand, if joining Tottenham, he would face greater pressure for immediate success due to the club's higher profile and expectations.
