Roy Keane has criticized Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes, likening their performance against Tottenham to that of inexperienced schoolboys.
Tottenham asserted control in the second half, scoring two goals. Pape Sarr netted the opener shortly after halftime, and Lisandro Martinez unintentionally deflected the ball into his own net near the end of the game.
Erik ten Hag's team struggled to mount a consistent offensive threat, with Marcus Rashford playing out of position and delivering an ineffective performance. On the wings, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony also proved frustrating.
In midfield, Fernandes and Mount failed to provide much creativity and left Casemiro exposed defensively, as has been the case previously. Keane believes that the lack of fight in United's midfield allowed this to happen and suggested that issues with fitness in the final minutes may be indicative of training problems.
"When I look at Mount and Fernandes, out of possession they look like schoolboys! They haven't got the physicality to get the ball back. We make excuses all the time for them, we’re told Ten Hag is a brilliant coach but we need to see it," the pundit told Sky Sports, via Manchester Evening News.
"They looked flat here. I'd like to know what they're doing on the training pitch. Are they over-training? They don’t look full of energy," he added.
