Leicester City manager Dean Smith is optimistic about his team's chances against Liverpool, especially considering the latter's inconsistent form away from home. The manager shared his thoughts as he spoke in the pre-match conference ahead of Monday's Premier League meeting with the Reds.
The Foxes are fighting to stay in the Premier League as they are currently two points behind 17th-placed Everton with only three games left in the season. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are competing with Newcastle and Manchester United for a Champions League spot.
The Merseyside team's hopes of a top-four finish seemed to have vanished weeks ago, though they managed to win six consecutive matches and return back in the running. However, the inability to maintain consistency away from Anfield is the reason they are currently in fifth place in the league, with even Bournemouth having a better away record.
“You look at that and you go ‘It is a tough time to face them,’ but they haven’t won as many games on the road as they normally do. In the Premier League, if I’m right, they’ve only taken ten points out of their last 30. We’ve got to make sure we have a Brighton or a Brentford performance against them, who got a result against them," Smith said, via Liverpool Echo.
Leicester head coach continued by stating that having many of the team's players performing at a level of seven or eight out of ten is crucial to beating Liverpool.
"I go back to winning your duels, you’ve got to still run faster and smarter than the opposition and use the ball better. If we do that, then we’ve got a good chance," he added.
