Bayern Munich have finalized the loan signing of Tottenham defender Eric Dier.
The Englishman's contract with the Premier League outfit is set to expire this summer, and coach Ange Postecoglou deemed him surplus to requirements.
ESPN sources reveal that the Bundesliga giants will need to pay a fee ranging from €2 million to €4 million, depending on the 29-year-old's performance, to make the deal permanent.
While Bayern initially targeted Genoa's defender Radu Dragusin, the center-back turned down the move to Munich and chose to join Spurs. This prompted the German champions to explore alternative options.
European football journalist Andy Brassell, speaking on The Transfer Show, shared insights into Dier's transfer to Germany and highlighted the reasons behind Thomas Tuchel's preference for the England international.
“The Eric Dier transfer is a little bit like Davinson Sanchez. He didn’t have the best time over the last year and a half at Spurs, but Galatasaray are very pleased with Sanchez so far, he looked the part in the Champions League as well.
“He is exactly what Bayern have been looking for. They couldn’t Joao Palhinha over the line and that will be a very difficult deal to broker in January.
“I think he’s exactly what they’re after and just maybe, it could get him back towards the England squad.”
