James Maddison has showered praise on Heung-min Son following a standout moment for the Tottenham Hotspur captain during his comeback to the team on Saturday.
In a crucial match for their top-four aspirations in the Premier League, Spurs secured a significant victory. However, it was another test of resilience for Ange Postecoglou's side.
Brighton seized the lead within the first 17 minutes, converting from the penalty spot. Pape Matar Sarr later leveled the score around the hour mark, setting the stage for a thrilling climax. The decisive moment arrived in the 96th minute, as Brennan Johnson netted the winner for the home side.
The winning goal materialized from a sublime cross by Heung-min Son, who was making his return after fulfilling international duties with South Korea. His impactful return was immediately marked by an assist that proved pivotal in Spurs' triumph.
In a post-match interview on Spurs Play, Maddison couldn't contain his admiration for the skipper's contribution, highlighting Son's instrumental role in securing the crucial victory for the North Londoners.
“The actual winning goal was a really nice goal – a really good move from the build-up all the way. It’s exactly how the gaffer wants us to play. I think he’ll be happy with that one,” he said.
“The gaffer always goes on about how he wants the other winger at the back post and it’s an absolutely brilliant cross from Sonny. That’s the quality he’s got.
“Brennan’s listening and learning and taking on and that’s what the gaffer wants him to do. He’s scored a couple at the back stick now so fair play to him.”
