Ilkay Gundogan admits Liverpool’s lead over Manchester City in Premier League could grow further

Manchester City are eight points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table after losing to Wolves on Sunday. City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan thinks Liverpool’s lead could grow further. “It’s not easy to take these things and see your biggest rival win all the time,” said City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. “We’ve definitely dropped too many points in the early part of the season. “If that’s the case in the next few weeks, the gap will be even bigger, so we have to win as much as possible. It’s quite early in the season and there are still a lot of points to play for, but if we want to speak about the title, we have to hope Liverpool will drop points. “That’s a fact we can’t be happy with and obviously we aren’t. But there’s nothing else to do but make it better in the next game. We know we have much more to show. It’s too late now, so we have to accept it and learn from the situation. It shows we still have weak points which we have to fix as soon as possible.” City boss Pep Guardiola in 2014, on his book “Pep Confidential” wrote about winning League titles: “It’s a bit like a recipe. League titles are won in the last eight games, but they are lost in the first eight.” Guardiola may already give up on winning third English title if he still follows his comments done five years ago.
