During a week FIFA revealed that the 2030 World Cup would be hosted across three continents, commencing in South America despite Spain, Portugal, and Morocco being the host nations.
Given this, Fabrizio Romano was among one of those expressing concern. The 100th anniversary of the premier football tournament coincides with that year, adding symbolism to the decision to start the tournament in Uruguay, where the inaugural World Cup took place in 1930.
Following the kickoff in Uruguay, matches will be held in Argentina (the defeated finalists in 1930) and Paraguay (the home country of Conmebol, the organizers of the first World Cup), before the teams return to Europe.
Writing exclusively in his exclusive Daily Briefing column, the Italian transfer insider expressed concerns over the decision, claiming he is 'worried' for the player.
‘I can understand the symbolic reason for the tournament taking place on different continents, being the 100 year celebration, but at the same time I’m just worried for the players who are already playing an incredible number of games every week.
‘They’ll have to travel more and more. It will make things more difficult, but for sure it will be fascinating from the fans point of view.’
