Erik ten Hag has confirmed that two of his key players, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, are likely to remain sidelined for the rest of the year due to injuries.
Martinez had suffered a metatarsal fracture back in April, attempted to return at the beginning of this season, and ended up requiring further surgery after just six appearances.
Meanwhile, Casemiro, who has had an inconsistent season, recently suffered a hamstring injury during a Carabao Cup match against Newcastle.
“Casemiro and Martinez are really strong injuries and I don’t expect them back before Christmas, it’s several weeks,” Ten Hag said at a press conference, via Forbes.
This is a significant setback for Ten Hag, who had brought both players to the club in the summer of 2022 and saw them become vital contributors in the previous season.
Manchester United are set to be busy in the midweek as they face off against Copenhagen in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday evening.
