Kieran Gibbs believes Newcastle United should pursue the transfer of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The former Premier League left-back considers Phillips to be a highly skilled player, but acknowledges that his time at Etihad since his £42 million transfer last summer hasn't been successful.
Gibbs suggests that former Leeds United man could benefit from a change and supports the idea of him joining Eddie Howe's Newcastle United, who will be participating in the Champions League next season.
While some players, like Jack Grealish, may require a year to settle in, Gibbs acknowledges the challenge for Phillips, a defensive-minded midfielder, due to the exceptional level of quality among his competitors at his current side.
“I do think he needs a refresh. I think Newcastle is a good shout for him. I would like to see him there. I think it’s a shame for Kalvin. He has nicked a Treble, by the way, so I am not sure he will be complaining that much," told ESPN.
