Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan receives Armenia’s Best player of Year award

Armenian national team and Arsenal player Henrikh Mkhitaryan was honored Armenia’s Best player of Year award having earned 190 scores in 2017. “I enjoy receiving the award and I’ll try to be the first in upcoming years having respected my team-mates.” You’re a hero for many children. Many of them want to wear your shirts, to attend your matches. What it means to be a hero? “I’ve also been a child once, I’m aware of the feeling as I also had a desire to be similar to a player or a hero. It’s a great honor for me, as it means that I’ve reached something important in my life and did a significant work for my country and for the people who follow me. Being children’s hero makes me happy. Henrikh we have two upcoming friendlies. What expectations do you have and what is about the motivation for the matches? “We’re always highly motivated, we’ll try to win the two friendlies despite the fact there’ll be both strategic changes and players’ substitutions. But it shouldn’t affect our desire to win, so we’ll try to make our fans happy.” We have a new player in our national team named Balekyan. What opinion do you have about him? My opinion is positive. He  has settled in very well during trainings. We hope his appearance will be a benefit for us. It seemed you didn’t have a problem concerning your adaptation in Arsenal. What would you say on this matter? “I was trying to get settled in very quickly and get adopted to both the country, and trainings. I had some difficulties but could overcome them due to my team-mates and I hope I will be able to bring success to my team. What do you think about League of Nations’ fixtures’ format? Could the friendlies be replaced by League of Nations’ fixtures? “We have 5 months ahead of new season and we could face many changes up to then. We just have to win the upcoming friendlies and then the League of Nations’ fixtures will be followed. “I think official fixtures are more interesting than friendlies as we gain experience and have a chance to overcome many difficulties. There’s a misbelief that we're in an easy group against weak opponents.  No, there are no weak or strong sides in modern football. We just have to win the matches and keep our pride.” If you have a very tense schedule, will you be able to combine Arsenal trainings with League of Nation’s matches? “Is it the first time? If not there’s no problem. Each year it’s you who win the ‘best’ title and it seems you’re out of competition. Is it great feeling? “I don’t consider myself to be a player who doesn’t have a concurrent. I always try to find opponents and compete with as it makes me stronger. There’re many good players and I’m the best due to them. I’m thankful them for the competition. Yesterday’s match against Estonia was remarkable as you scored your first goal in national squad. Will the next match be also special for you? We’re training as usual and I don’t think it is a special match for me. Yes I do remember my first goal against Estonia and I’ll try to go on with this spirit. The most important is to win. We always have high expectations from you. Aren’t you under some kind of psychological pressure? “Not only fans expect high quality game but me as I don’t play football for just being a part of it but to succeed, to score and to make assists. I don’t feel pressure it’s already in past. I try to have a light and free approach to each game,” Mkhitaryan added.
