Chelsea forward Kai Havertz shared his thoughts on the club's current squad size and Thomas Tuchel's dismissal from his managerial position with the German Kicker.
The German international revealed that Tuchel's sacking just seven games into the season came as a surprise and made a difference in the team, which had previously thrived under the 49-year-old. 'And then Thomas Tuchel was fired, which of course, always makes a difference in a team like this when you've been successful with a coach, and he gets fired out of nowhere," said Havertz after noting that the change of ownership has also been difficult to digest.
Under their interim coach, the Blues have had a disappointing kickstart to the season. The London club suffered five consecutive losses, which has put them only nine points ahead of the bottom three teams. According to the German star, their position in the table feels like having their "backs to the wall"
"Everything that could go wrong went wrong for us this year", noted the 23-year-old and suggested that the January transfers resulted in a "giant squad" that is not always effective or helpful.
"We got a lot of new players over the winter who first have to settle in with us in order to be able to show their quality. Of course it’s easy to find excuses. I’m not blaming everything on something. At the end of the day, we’re all professional footballers and we have to win football games sometimes."
Tonight, on April 2nd, Chelsea will visit the Emirates stadium in a bid to break their streak of five consecutive losses under the management of Frank Lampard. Havertz stated that the team is determined to impede Arsenal's pursuit of the title. He expressed his hopes of winning the match to gain the support of the fans and added that defeating their rivals would be beneficial for the supporters.
A for the Silky German, he scored 9 goals in a total of 41 appearances this season.
