Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil appears eager to secure Southampton striker Che Adams during the 2024 winter transfer window, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
Negotiations for Chelsea’s Armando Broja at Molineux seem to have stalled. Wolves have demonstrated strong attacking prowess throughout the 2023/24 season but seek additional depth in their forward line after several departures this month.
Despite early relegation predictions, O’Neil's team has performed well in the Premier League, vying for a top-half finish. Before January, the Midlands outfit loaned out Fabio Silva to Rangers and saw Sasa Kalajdzic depart for Eintracht Frankfurt, with a return expected in the summer.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs is focused on bolstering the striker options, with interest in Broja alongside Fulham and West Ham United. However, the £50m price tag may deter the club.
Adams emerges as an alternative, also attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Everton. The Saints value their star at £6m, with his contract expiring in the summer.
Despite hopes for the 27-year-old to stay at St Mary's Stadium, Wolves are reportedly more likely to pursue him over other targets like Danny Ings and Hugo Ekitike.
Crook suggests that a £35m deal for Broja is "unrealistic," hinting at the possibility of a loan move.
“It’s unrealistic that Wolves pay the money for Broja now. If Chelsea were willing to loan him and then take a £35m fee in the summer, I think Wolves would be open to that. But I was told 48 hours ago that they weren't close to anything. They still want Adams, and I think O’Neil is particularly keen on that. But I can see a situation where he sees out the last six months of his contract and then waits to see what options are available in the summer.”
