Fabrizio Romano has responded to the current transfer rumors regarding Christopher Nkunku being offered to Liverpool in the summer.
The football insider recently revealed that the France international will head to Chelsea in the upcoming campaign, however, there is now speculation that Liverpool used to be a potential destination for his services.
According to the Telegraph, the Reds passed up the opportunity to sign the RB Leipzig star in preference of Darwin Nunez. Meanwhile, Romano confirmed, neither Jurgen Klopp's side nor anyone was close to getting the player's signature last summer.
“There’s been a report that Liverpool turned down the chance to sign Christopher Nkunku in the summer. However, I’m told it was impossible to sign Nkunku in the summer for any club as RB Leipzig extended his contract with a clause to sell him in 2023, not last July.
“Liverpool always wanted Darwin Nunez as their priority target, it was decided internally; of course Pep Lijnders was involved in the decision but it’s the same for Klopp – Liverpool work all together on signings.” said the Italian journalist via CaughOffside.
