Following their unsuccessful pursuit of Lucas Paqueta from West Ham, Manchester City have redirected their attention toward Wolverhampton's Matheus Nunes.
The 25-year-old has been with Molineux since the previous summer, having transferred from Sporting Lisbon in a substantial £45 million deal.
However, for the second consecutive transfer window, his future with the club appears uncertain. Emerging as a prime target for Pep Guardiola, the player donning the number 27 jersey for Wolves seems poised to become the next addition to the Etihad roster.
Although City's initial offer was rebuffed, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Midlands outfit have been presented with an improved offer, approximately valued at €60 million, from the reigning Premier League champions.
During a live Q&A session on the DeBrief show on Monday, when questioned about the likelihood of Guardiola securing the Portuguese ace before the deadline day on Friday, Romano stated:
“I think there is a very good chance to make this deal happen. They have an agreement with the player because Matheus Nunes wants to go to Manchester City and Manchester City are very confident.
“Let’s wait for Wolves’ final answer to this proposal (€60 million) but Man City believe this week they can make this deal happen and have a new midfielder in Matheus Nunes.”
