Chelsea are reportedly open to selling Romelu Lukaku at a significantly reduced price compared to what they paid just 26 months ago.
In the summer of 2021, the Belgian joined Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan for a record-breaking fee of approximately £97.5 million, making him the club's most expensive signing.
The academy graduate of Anderlecht, arrived in London with high expectations, given his impressive track record in England, where he had scored a total of 113 Premier League goals during stints with West Brom, Everton, and Manchester United.
Following two prolific seasons in Serie A, he was considered one of the world's top goalscorers. His return to Stamford Bridge started promising. However, his relationship with back-then head coach Thomas Tuchel soured, leading to a disappointing season in which he scored only eight Premier League goals.
Eventually, the 30-year-old was loaned back to Inter. During his loan spell, the striker struggled to replicate the success of his previous stint, managing 10 goals in 25 appearances.
Transfer speculation swirled throughout the summer, with rumored interest from Juventus. Lukaku's improved form has fueled talks of a permanent transfer, with renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stating that the Blues have set an asking price of £37 million for the star.
