EXCLUSIVE: Stuart Armstrong gives his thoughts on heavy fixture list ahead of new season

Scotland traveled to Yerevan, Armenia for their Nations League game against the Armenians on June 14. This was their 4th game in the past two weeks.

Steve Clarke’s side celebrated a 2-0 victory over Armenia when they hosted Joaquín Caparrós’s side on June 8th. While in an away game, the Scotland national team scored 4 goals after being down 1-0 just 6 minutes into the game.

It was after Che Adams’ assist that Stuart Armstrong equalized for their side and at the end of the first-half, after John McGinn’s assist, Armstrong put Scotland ahead and therefore formed a double.

In the second half, McGinn scored Scotland’s 3rd goal, while minutes later, Adams scored the 4th.

The game ended in Scotland’s 4-1 win.

Following the game, the Southampton star Stuart Armstrong spoke with VBETNews about the heavy fixture that the players have.

“I think in terms of finishing the season with Nations League it’s always difficult because a lot of players are playing a lot of games,” Armstrong told VBETNews, when asked about how the heavy fixture list will affect the new season in terms of being fit.

“The fixture list is heavy, we had four games in the last two weeks. So it is important to have a rest. We have three weeks for recovery for another big season ahead. It’s part of the game at the moment. Obviously, more rest is always beneficial for the players.”

Scotland currently sit second in their League B Group 1 with 2 wins and 1 defeat in three games.
