Europa League final: Marseille vs Atletico Madrid. Match Preview

The 47th final of Europe’s secondary club football tournament will be played tonight at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon between Marseille and Atletico Madrid.

Previous Meetings

The clubs' only past fixtures came in the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League group stage Atlético beating Marseille 2-1 at home before a goalless draw at the Stade Vélodrome. Marseille have won only four of their 15 UEFA competition matches against Spanish opposition. Atlético's record in 12 matches against French clubs is W6 D5 L1, the only defeat coming at Lens (2-4) in the fourth round of the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup – a result that eliminated them following a first-leg 2-2 draw in Madrid. Atlético have not beaten a French club in France since September 1961, when they won 3-2 at Sedan in the first round of their triumphant European Cup Winners' Cup campaign.

Rudi Garcio, Marseille

We have a pretty small chance of winning but we are going to give it our all. Playing Atlético is a big event for us.

Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid

Everything is set up for a great final. [Marseille have] been improving and they have a coach who has so many options at his disposal and a lot of nous. They're very dangerous, particularly in midfield and attack. It'll certainly be a tough game.

Possible line-ups

Mandanda; Sakai, Rami, Luiz Gustavo, Amavi; Anguissa, Sanson; Thauvin, Payet, Ocampos; Germain
