Manchester United is reportedly set to strengthen their attacking options by signing two strikers ahead of the 2023-24 season under the management of Erik ten Hag.
The team's lack of a prolific central striker has been evident, with Marcus Rashford, primarily deployed in a wide role, leading the goal-scoring charts with 16 league goals. The club is targeting a seasoned goal-getter and a promising young talent to bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign.
According to The Times, Harry Kane and Rasmus Hojlund are the top names on Ten Hag's wish list. Kane, the England captain, may command a significant transfer fee despite entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham. Meanwhile, Atalanta's Hojlund is expected to cost around £40 million. The 20-year-old Danish international has impressed in Serie A, contributing with a goal or assist every 158 minutes and even securing a hat-trick for his national team against Finland in March.
Although Kane and Hojlund are primary targets, the Red Devils are also considering other options, including Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani.
According to former Man United striker Andy Cole, Manchester United needs to avoid short-term solutions and the risk of investing heavily in Kane, only to face the need for another striker in a couple of years when he reaches an older age. The club must be cautious about finding themselves in a similar situation again and instead focus on a more sustainable approach.
