Erik ten Hag names the player to debut against the clash with Newport County

Erik Ten Hag has officially announced that Altay Bayindir, the backup goalkeeper, will be the starting goalkeeper in Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round clash against Newport County.

Despite being considered favorites as a Premier League giant, the Red Devils face the inherent pressure that comes with cup competitions. The Dutchman emphasized that Bayindir, who arrived from Fenerbahce seven months ago, will be making his debut for the club, adding an extra layer of pressure.

The 25-year-old Turkish shot-stopper has displayed patience while waiting for his chance, and now, with the absence of Andre Onana due to international duty in the Africa Cup of Nations, Bayindir's moment has arrived.

Ten Hag spoke highly of the 25-year-old's experience, highlighting his time in Turkey's top-flight football where he played for a major club under intense pressure. The manager expressed confidence in Bayindir's ability to handle the expectations associated with playing for a club like Manchester United.

“He knows how to deal with it, and we were convinced. So we are looking forward to Sunday. Altay has waited for his chance and this is his moment,” said the Reds' boss.
