Erik ten Hag could decide on sticking with Anthony Martial as Manchester United's centre forward in case of Cristiano Ronaldo's departure in January.
The Portuguese man has found his playing time limited at Old Trafford after the arrival of former Ajax boss. The United star was left out of the senior squad training last week and had to miss the Premier League game against Chelsea following his refusal to come off the bench in the second half versus Tottenham.
Many times Ten Hag has claimed that Ronaldo needs time to adapt to the team after missing United's pre-season games, while the latest incident rose doubts over the 37-year-old's future at the club.
Ten Hag's actions have already proved that he wants to give the young players more opportunities to grow. Ronaldo's absence was a huge boost for Martial to show himself and get the manager's trust.
Martial is recently facing some fitness problems, however, in case of a successful recovery, the French professional could be United's replacement for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner at least until the next summer transfer window.
