Eddie Howe names Nick Pope possible injury return date and responds to David de Gea links

Eddie Howe has dismissed rumors of Newcastle United's interest in former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

With Nick Pope sidelined due to a shoulder injury, Howe plans to rely on Martin Dubravka for the upcoming matches, with Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie serving as backup options.

Despite speculation about a potential free transfer, Howe swiftly addressed recent stories concerning goalkeepers while speaking at his press conference ahead of the trip to Everton.

"I've seen a lot of media headlines regarding goalkeepers and other players. We have not made any enquiries. If we were to recruit now we'd be recruiting in every area on the pitch. It's a chance for the other keepers to consolidate their positions," he said, via Chronicle Live.

Howe confirmed that Pope will undergo surgery that will put the keeper out of action for around four months.

"He will be operated on. It will be about four months. We were fearing the worst. He's been in the best form since he has been at the football club," the manager added.
