Chelsea's young talent Ian Maatsen is on the verge of joining Borussia Dortmund on loan from for the remainder of the season.
Last summer, the Dutchman, despite Burnley's £31.5m offer, opted to stay at Stamford Bridge after a successful loan spell. Despite Chelsea's injury concerns, Maatsen has seen limited Premier League action under Mauricio Pochettino, having started only one game.
Dortmund will pay a £2m loan fee, and as part of the deal, the young player has extended his contract with Chelsea for two more years, now lasting until 2027. This new agreement includes a release clause, with Chelsea hoping that Maatsen's playing time at Dortmund will boost his market value for a potential summer transfer.
In their January transfer pursuits, the Bundesliga giants have prioritized a left-back and a winger, and they are close to finalizing a loan deal for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho. Sancho had initially moved from Dortmund to United in July 2021 for an initial fee of £73m.
