Divock Origi on why he turned down offer to leave Liverpool in January

Divock Origi insists he had a “gut feeling” Liverpool would achieve something special last season and that’s why he turned down an offer from Wolves in January. “It was a gut feeling,” said Origi, who scored in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Sporting Lisbon in New York in the early hours of Thursday having also netted against Sevilla on Sunday. “For me, I just sat down and I felt like I wanted to stay and help this team. I felt good, I just had to keep performing in training and I knew my chance would come. I felt like we could do something special. “I just had to block everything out on the outside and focus on the right things. In football you never know 100 per cent, it could have gone another way as well but that’s the choice I made.” Origi didn’t feature in the Premier League until December 2 when he grabbed a late winner against Newcastle to keep the Reds on Manchester City’s tails in the Premier League title race. He delivered as his double helped the Reds overturned a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final to seal their place in Madrid. Then he scored the second goal in the 2-0 win over Tottenham.
