Dean Smith backs Jack Grealish after Gareth Southgate snub

Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith thinks Jack Grealish should prove on the pitch that Gareth Southgate was wrong not to call him to England national team for the upcoming Euro - 2020 Qualifiers. It was a strange decision from Three Lions' coach, who ignored Grealish, and called Ross Barkley and Fabian Delph instead, as the latest ones do not have permanent playing time at their clubs. "Gareth has said he can play as a wide player or an attacking midfielder, as he has done with Aston Villa, last season and this season, so there are a number of different positions he can play," Smith said (via Sky Sports). "He will react as he has done before. We all saw what happened when he missed football for three months last season, coming back with a bang, with the volley against Derby, and an assist with his first ball forward. "Your job is about trying to prove people wrong, and he will feel he is playing at a good enough level, so he will be a little bit frustrated, but all he can do is work hard for Aston Villa and make other people take notice." Aston Villa coach has also provided fitness update on his star player ahead of PL game against Wolverhampton. Smith hopes Grealish will be ready to start against Nuno Espirito Santo's side, as Grealish missed Liverpool clash last week and Wolves match in Carabao Cup.
