David De Gea turns down SHOCK return offer to Premier League

According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest actively sought to bolster their goalkeeper position during the January transfer window by pursuing former Manchester United shot-stopper David De Gea for a potential free transfer to the City Ground.

Dissatisfied with their current goalkeeping options, which include Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos, Forest approached a total of seven goalkeepers, including De Gea, in their quest for reinforcement.

However, reports indicate that the Spaniard declined the short-term offer presented by the club. Ultimately, Nuno Espírito Santo's side secured the services of Matz Sels through a transfer deal valued at an initial £5.1 million.

Since departing from Old Trafford in the summer, the 33-year-old has remained without a club. Despite his lengthy and dedicated tenure at Manchester, he was not offered a contract extension, with the Red Devils opting to sign Andre Onana as his replacement.

The former Inter Milan star's performances, however, have fallen short of expectations, with several costly mistakes leading to goals.
