Reports indicate that incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has given the green light for the club to pursue a move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Pochettino, who has agreed to take charge at Stamford Bridge next season, is reportedly planning to make changes between the sticks due to the unconvincing performances of current goalkeepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy. It is believed that Pochettino considers Onana a priority target and is open to using midfielder Mateo Kovacic as part of a potential swap deal. The return of Kovacic to Inter, where he previously played from 2013 to 2015, could serve as an enticing proposition. The Croatia international is reportedly open to rejoining the Serie A side.
However, Inter Milan is reluctant to part ways with Onana. The Cameroonian goalkeeper is considered indispensable to manager Simone Inzaghi's project, as demonstrated by his ability to surpass the experienced Samir Handanovic and become the team's new number one. Onana has also played a crucial role in Inter Milan's journey to the Champions League final.
Negotiations between Chelsea and Inter Milan are expected to take place this summer, even if a move for Onana does not materialize. The future of striker Romelu Lukaku, currently on loan, is uncertain and could also be a topic of discussion between the two clubs.
