Chelsea is experiencing an injury blow ahead of their clash with Manchester City on May 21 at Etihad Stadium.
The Blues' center-back Kalidou Koulibaly, who sustained a thigh injury, is expected to return to the squad after being sidelined for several weeks, just in time to help his team against the thriving Premier League leaders.
Yet, more Chelsea players, including Ben Chilwell, N'Golo Kante, Reece James, Mason Mount and Marc Cucurella are expected to miss the game due to injuries, according to Football London.
N'Golo Kante is likely to miss the rest of the season after being sent off the pitch as a result of a groin injury. The Frenchman has been struggling to keep fit for a year already and has had three setbacks since the beginning of the current campaign.
What has Lampard said about his fitness?
"He felt something in his groin. So that's probably a couple of weeks and we know what that means pretty much. We just have to keep going."
Mateo Kovacic was ruled out in the match against Nottingham Forest last week, and does not have the date of his return identified yet. It is presumed that the Croatia international will not play any more games for the club, as he is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Among Kovacic's biggest admirers are Bayern Munich.
"I don't know. I know he had a bit of an issue going into the game. It was clear yesterday in training. I spoke to him before to see how it went. I haven't followed it up since the game to be honest. We hope he's OK."
What has Lampard said about his fitness?
Ben Chilwell has sustained a hamstring injury in Chelsea's victorious game against Bournemouth. As a matter of fact, the same issue had him sidelined for 10 matches already since the beginning of the season. It is expected that the England international will be back in time to face Manchester United on May 25.
What has Lampard said about his fitness?
"Not fit. No we are hoping that Chilly may be fit possibly for the last game or two of the season but that is a tight call. It's a similar story with Mason Mount, maybe a little bit similar with Reece [James] but I feel that Reece might be slightly behind that. So we are obviously chasing it about now."
Marc Cucurella is out of the game because of a quadriceps injury. As per Lampard's comments, it can be presumed that the player will either be back by the time Chelsea battles Manchester United, or he will also miss the rest of the season.
What has Lampard said about his fitness?
"No he won't be fit for this game and again probably questionable in line with the others for that final week of the season."
Reece James played the entire 90 minutes of the game against Real Madrid last month, despite the observed discomfort in his hamstring. The England International is expected to be back on track in summer, yet he is currently maintaining some sort of physical activity by engaging in outdoor training alongside Mount and Chilwell.
What has Lampard said about his fitness?
"No we are hoping that Chilly may be fit possibly for the last game or two of the season but that is a tight call. It's a similar story with Mason Mount, maybe a little bit similar with Reece [James] but I feel that Reece might be slightly behind that. So we are obviously chasing it about now."
Mason Mount has been struggling with an ongoing pelvic issue since the beginning of the season. The 24-year-old is trying to maintain some sort of physical activity by engaging in outdoor training with Reece James and Ben Chilwell. Just like the former player, Mount is also expected to return in summer.
What has Lampard said about his fitness?
Mason has been carrying this pelvic injury for quite a while, it pre-dates myself. We've been trying and the medical staff have been trying but we've got to the stage now where he'll have a minor surgery. Probably a four-week recovery and we know where that gets us to."
Armando Broja have been missed at Chelsea for an extended period due to a knee injury sustained in a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa. The young striker let out a scream of pain after colliding with Ezri Konsa and had to be stretchered off the pitch. It was a significant setback considering Broja had no previous knee injury history. Unfortunately, he requires surgery to repair a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee, which means he is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season.
The Blues are currently sitting in the 11th place in the league table with 43 points. Interim coach Frank Lampard's side had had a rather challenging season under a new ownership, hectic managerial decisions and an overcrowded dressing room. After a set of winless consecutive matches, Chelsea celebrated their first victory in a while against Bournemouth in May 6 and concluded a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest last Saturday.
Pep Guardiola's side, on the other hand, is chasing a treble and has already secured their place in the Champions League final against Inter Milan, after a fantastic 4-0 win over Real Madrid.
