Arsene Wenger has voiced his admiration for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, even as current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has favored David Raya over him in recent matches.
The goalkeeper position has been under scrutiny following the Spaniard's inclusion in the starting lineup against Everton last month. The 28-year-old has since been the preferred choice in goal for Arteta, even featuring in both UEFA Champions League group stage matches this season, while the England international awaits his UCL debut.
The former manager's praise for Ramsdale came during his appearance on Bein Sports, quoted by Now Arsenal, after the Gunners' dominant 5-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium.
“Personally, I like [Aaron] Ramsdale. If I was in his position I would not give up because I believe he has a chance to get back into the team.
In response to Richard Keys' question about his comparison to Raya, Wenger remarked: "Better? I don’t know if he’s better. I just think that Ramsdale has made decisive saves in games last season. They were not happy maybe with his feet, his distribution."
