Arsenal has expressed a definite interest in signing Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City in the summer.
With Granit Xhaka's departure, the Gunners are in need of a midfield replacement and Mikel Arteta reportedly considers the German international as the perfect option.
The 32-year-old is currently in the last year of his contract at Etihad Stadium. However, reports suggest that the Premier League giants are offering him a €9m-a-year contract extension to secure his services for more years but the sides are yet to reach an agreement.
Securing a highly skilled player like Gundogan on a free transfer would be a smart move for the North Londoners. On the other hand, Barcelona are also strongly linked with the player, meanwhile, the midfield's final decision regarding his future remains uncertain.
Arteta, having previously worked with the City's star during his time as part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff, could potentially use that connection to entice the 32-year-old midfielder to make an Emirates move.
