How Arsenal convinced Torreira to snub Napoli and join Gunners

Lucas Torreira is set to join Arsenal in a deal worth £22million, becoming Unai Emery’s fourth summer signing. According to  Marca, new Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti was keen to land the holding midfielder. But the transfer came to nothing after the Gunners convinced him otherwise. Marca claim that in learning the details of the deal Napoli offered the Uruguayan, Arsenal came in with an improved contract - one that sees the midfielder earn £1.7million more in wages each season. Using money as a vehicle to beat a rival to a player is not something Arsenal are known for.
