Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte has emerged as a candidate for Mikel Arteta to bolster Arsenal's defensive options following Jurrien Timber's serious injury, writes Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffSide column.
Laporte, who has seen reduced playing time at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, might be enticed by the opportunity to feature more prominently at Arsenal, a team that has been on the rise over the past year. The Spain international has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2018.
As per Romano, the Gunners will aim for a "traditional" center-back rather than another versatile player like Timber. While Manchester City may be reluctant to sell another player to Arsenal, considering the impact of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last season, the Laporte saga could be one to watch.
It is seen that Arsenal's newcomer Dutchman's injury doesn't impact Kieran Tierney's status, as he remains available for transfer this summer. Romano underlines that Arsenal's stance on Tierney involves pursuing a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal.
