Aston Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, along with Arsenal's duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, have secured their spots in the 2023 Ballon d'Or rankings.
Three years after Arsenal's £17 million sale of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa (as reported by Sky Sports), the talented goalkeeper has made significant strides in his career. He has established himself as the primary goalkeeper for Villa, contributing to their 14 clean sheets in his first season at the club and helping them secure a return to European competitions this summer.
However, Martinez's most significant success has come on the international stage, where he has become Argentina's undisputed number one goalkeeper and played a pivotal role in their victory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Consequently, the 31-year-old goalkeeper was ranked 15th in the 2023 Ballon d'Or, ahead of his former Arsenal teammate Bukayo Saka, who secured the 24th position.
Arsenal's captain, Martin Odegaard, was placed 28th in the rankings. The Norway international's placement comes after a season in which he scored 15 goals and provided eight assists for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, who narrowly missed out on clinching the Premier League title.
