England Football League are negotiating with Liverpool to reschedule the Carabao Cup quarterfinal match against Aston Villa.
Initially, the matches are planned to be played in the week commencing December 16.
Liverpool however, will travel to Qatar to participate in Club World Cup as Champions League winners that week, which has made the scheduling of Carabao Cup a headache for both teams and the association.
And truly, there is almost no option to play the match at Villa Park on a December day, if we take a look at Liverpool’s calendar, which is as follows:
December 4 Everton (H)
December 7 Bournemouth (A)
December 10 Red Bull Salzburg (A) Champions League
December 14 Watford
December 17/18 Aston Villa (A) Carabao Cup quarter-final
December 18 FIFA Club World Cup semi-final
December 21 FIFA Club World Cup third place or Final
December 26 Leicester City (A)
December 29 Wolves (H)
January 2 Sheffield United (H)
January 4/5 FA Cup third round
January 7/8 Possible Carabao Cup semi-final, first leg
January 11 Tottenham Hotspur (A)
Jurgen Klopp has told reporters after the match they will not be able to play, if appropriate date is not selected.
The most possible and realistic option under those circumstances is playing the quarterfinal in January and reschedule the semi-finals.
As reported by Sky Sports, the final match won’t be rescheduled and will be played on March 1.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa and Liverpool are preparing to face each other in the Premier League.
