Edu and Mikel Arteta 'disagreed' over Arsenal's Thomas Partey or Houssem Aouar question

Edu and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta disagreed over Thomas Partey or Houssem Aouar question, according to French outlet L'Equipe. They claim that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta would actually have preferred to sign Lyon's Aouar this summer. However, technical director Edu's decision "obviously had more weight". Arsenal eventually moved for Ghanaian midfielder Partey. The 27-year-old joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day earlier this month. Aouar had moved to the front of the queue to be the more likely of the pair to sign for the Gunners, with negotiations taking place with Lyon. The Ligue 1 side rejected those approaches though, with the 22-year-old France international instead staying at the club. That L'Equipe report details Lyon's delight at being able to keep hold of both Aouar and forward Memphis Depay, both of whom scored in the 4-1 win over Monaco on Sunday night. If Arteta is indeed disappointed at landing Partey and not the France international then he hasn't shown it. "I was really impressed because he looked really confident, he grabbed the game in the most difficult period, he took responsibility, he was really comfortable on the ball, he made a lot of right decisions, he was really strong in the challenges in every transition moment," said Arteta.
