Edouard Mendy's relationship with Kepa as Chelsea's new goalkeeper explains Petr Cech influence

Edouard Mendy says that he has a very good relationship with Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Senegal international also explained how influential Petr Cech was in bringing him to Stamford Bridge from Rennes last month. Mendy, who has kept two clean sheets in his three starts since signing for Frank Lampard's side, said the goalkeepers are united. "I have a very good relationship with Kepa and the group of goalkeepers we have we're all very open and all of us understand that the team is the most important thing here, and doing what's right for the group," Mendy said yesterday. "So our relationships are all really good, we work well together and are pushing each other every day to improve ourselves and improve each other. And we know as goalkeepers that we have to stay unified and united, and that's how things are going at the moment." Cech, who joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2004, was surprisingly added to Chelsea's Premier League squad this week as a precaution. "I have been aware that Petr Cech has been watching my matches for a number of years," Mendy said. "It is very pleasing to hear that he has been watching me and saying that he liked my profile and the way I was performing. "So after the season with Rennes, the offer came in from Chelsea and it is a great pride for me to join this club. Thanks to Petr and Christophe for following me but it is clear that everyone here approved my signing. "Petr has followed me for many years and played a particularly big role in the transfer. Now it is up to me to repay their interest in me, having brought me to the club."
