Donny van de Beek: Manchester United and FC Lorient reach agreement over a loan for midfielder

FC Lorient have reportedly reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign midfielder Donny van de Beek on a season-long loan deal, according to reports in France.

Van de Beek joined Man United from Ajax in 2020 but failed to impress under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. The Dutchman would seal a loan move to Everton two seasons ago in a bid to get his career back on track but his short loan spell was next to nothing as he was only able to score one goal in seven Prem appearances and was injured in the majority of his time at Goodison Park.

Many had thought the former Ajax midfielder would rejuvenate his career under his former boss, Ten Hag, at the Theatre of Dreams last season but the signings of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen and the presences of Scott McTominay and Fred in the middle of the park prevented him from making a statement. He was able to make seven Premier League appearances before suffering a long-term knee injury.

Erik ten Hag has lost faith in him and would prefer to see him leave than have him in his squad. He is keen on signing Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina but this deal has dallied because Manchester United reportedly need to sell or offload one more midfielder, after Fred joined Fenerbahce last month, before they can proceed with incomings.

According to Santi Aouna, a French journalist, he reported that both FC Lorient and Manchester United have reached an agreement over the signing of Donny van de Beek on a season long loan deal but there might be an issue.

The reporter made it clear that the midfielder will have to agree to join Lorient otherwise the transfer cannot be completed. Elsewhere, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been attracting interest from Bayern Munich. There are claims in Germany that Thomas Tuchel views McTominay as his ideal player to operate as his No.6.

At this stage no official bid has been made and the Red Devils are not under any pressure to offload the Scotland international because Ten Hag has signalled that he wouldn't mind to have the Man United academy graduate at his disposal for at least one more season.
