Djokovic, Nadal or Federer: Nick Kyrgios reveals who had the greatest forehand on tour

World No.52 Nick Kyrgios joined Jim Courier in the commentary box for Roger Federer’s Australian Open victory over Taylor Fritz. The 23-year-old was asked about facing Federer’s forehand. “It’s so uncomfortable,” Kyrgios said. “He puts the pressure right back on you. He shrinks the court so you feel like you cannot play. It never looks like Federer is fazed. Even if he hits a double fault, he always looks so relaxed. He is so creative, he does not even have to hit a conventional volley, and he can hit swing volleys. He is so creative, so talented. Federer’s timing is scary good. He almost hits everything on the half volley. “He’s always inside the baseline looking to come forward. He is such a surgeon. It is more the unknown to Federer. You think you know what is coming but you do not. He is the greatest of all time. You’re not going to get many chances against Roger when you get them you have to take them.” In addition, when pressed for who had the greatest forehand on tour, Kyrgios hailed the world No 3. “I think if he’s feeling good then Roger is definitely one,” he added. “The year when Jack Sock was No 8 in the world his forehand was scary. [Juan Martin] Del Potro obviously can give his forehand a bit of a hit as well. This person called Kyrgios… I think Roger is definitely No 1.” However, Courier was curious about Nadal's absence from the list. “I did forget about Rafael Nadal,” Kyrgios replied. However, what about the best backhand, you are now thinking. “At times I do feel like my backhand is pretty rock solid,” Kyrgios said. “The creativity Federer has off his slice… I think backhand obviously [Novak] Djokovic, [Andy] Murray and lower ranked people as if Benoit Paire has an unbelievable backhand. I think Djokovic probably has that one.”
