Diogo Jota has made an admission on Europa League as Liverpool prepare to compete in the tournament during the 2023/24 season.
The Reds had a difficult season in 2022/23 as they finished 5th and managed to qualify only for the Europa League group stage and missed out on a chance to compete in Champions League.
"I played in the Europa League before with Wolves," Jota told FourFourTwo.
"Although the fans are used to playing in the Champions League every single year and it will feel like a downgrade, it’s still a prestigious competition. We’ll give our best to win it."
"[Real Madrid] can somehow finish third in their group and still be in our way. But since I came to Liverpool, I’ve always got knocked out by Real Madrid, so hopefully they’re not there [in the Europa League]," Jota added.
The Reds have faced La Liga side several times during the UCL tournament and have failed to celebrate victories. Jurgen Klopp's side faced Real Madrid in the 2018 and 2022 finals, 2021 quarter-finals and the 2023 round of 16 and suffered defeats.
